Just a girl?
Poisoned Divas not only celebrates female strength and self-expression but also pays tribute to the women whose lives were destroyed by the world of showbiz. For our first collection, I created a pop-art style, sugar-coated colorful paintings of women who experienced the dark side of the spotlight. Initially, Amy Winehouse, Bettie Page, Tracy Lords, who played Wanda Woodward in the movie Cry-Baby, and Dita von Teese were included in this not-so-glorious lineup. Unfortunately, the series can be extended much further...
These paintings, playful and cheeky, sometimes sarcastic or even boldly provocative, are featured on our practical garments, carrying their stories forward. At Poisoned Divas, we must view "fashion," clothing, and garments not just as aesthetic objects of use but as an artistic language, a tool to draw attention to important social issues, provoke thought, or even inspire debate.
The media and beauty industry present an idealized, often overly sexualized image of women. This unrealistic portrayal places enormous pressure on women, who usually feel they cannot meet these expectations while balancing their everyday struggles between work, family, and personal needs. The false illusions created by the media and beauty industry increase women's psychological burdens, leading to issues such as lack of confidence, anxiety disorders, and even depression. And so, the vicious cycle continues...
The first series of the collection is titled Just a Girl? Through the lens of photographer Diána Kis-Schmiethoffer, we aim to reflect on this phenomenon and gently touch on the topic of invisible labor.
